The opening of Gitano Island on Governors Island transports you to a tropical bar and beach side lounge. Its an offshoot of a popular bar and restaurant in Tulum, Mexico that has long had seasonal pop-ups in downtown NYC yet now has a permanent spot. They transported 350 tons of sand and 500 tropical plants across the East River to set the mood at the Governors Island beach club. The best part is that this location is a quick ride on the ferry from NYC, which leaves every 30 minutes and only costs $5.00
When you go, make sure to get a tequila and sip it while closing your eyes as when you open it, you will think you are in Tulum, Mexico!
